Community Clean Up
Make a difference in your community by participating in the Renew Our Rivers Bankhead Lake Clean Up. Pick up trash along your roadside or slough at your convenience. Clean up supplies and registration will be available at Redtop Market (1101 Alliance Rd, Hueytown) beginning May 13th – 29th (while supplies last.) Marked drop off areas are available at Buddy Vines’ Camp and the Elks Lodge at Franklins Ferry.
Your roadside clean up or slough trash collection will go toward the total clean up tonnage.
River Clean Up and Volunteer Appreciation Lunch
May 30th is Volunteer Clean Up and Appreciation Day. 8am – Noon. Registration begins at 8am with the volunteer appreciation lunch at NOON.

About the Bankhead Lake Clean Up
Bankhead Lake, part of the Black Warrior River System, provides a valuable resource and recreational opportunities for the region. Locally coordinated, the Bankhead Lake Cleanup capitalizes on the efforts of Alabama Power Company’s Renew Our Rivers program, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ activities, local businesses and others to increase awareness of litter and its effects on the environment.
Directions from downtown Birmingham to May 30th site, Buddy Vines Camp
Take I 59/20 West towards Tuscaloosa. Take exit #120 "Ensley Avenue 20th Street". Bear right at the bottom of the ramp. You are now on highway 269 and the mile markers start from "0". Follow this road straight for 15 miles to the 15 mile marker. Just past the marker is an intersection with BP station. Turn left onto Short Creek Rd. Follow to dead end. Turn left onto Alliance Rd. Go 1.2 miles to top of third hill and take a hard right onto "Buddy Vines Camp Rd". Follow main road 2.7 miles to camp. Phone 436-3430.

Shoes you don’t mind getting wet – old tennis shoes, high top work boots
Long pants
Insect repellant
If you have the following, please bring:
Heavy duty work gloves
Dip nets
OOSAFETY NOTESOO
Only pick up items you are comfortable carrying. Ask for help with larger or awkward items. If it won’t budge, just leave it!
Be careful when handling sharp items. Use gloves!!
Be on the lookout for snakes, wasps, and hornets in debris piles or vegetated areas.
Don’t get dehydrated. Drink plenty of water.
